Terms of Service

Last updated 27 October 2026 · version 2026-10-27.3

The short version

  • Muscle Memory gives you coding challenges to practise on. Use it to get better, have fun, and don't wreck it for anyone else.
  • You have to be 16 or older.
  • We record what you do here, because that's how the product works. The Privacy Notice explains what we collect and why.
  • Your code stays yours. You give us a licence to use it to run Muscle Memory and learn from it. We publish insights, never your code.
  • Solve challenges yourself. No AI assistants in your runs: comparing people with LLMs only works if the people are people.
  • It's an early product, provided as is. Things will change, and occasionally break.

These Terms are an agreement between you and Ekku Leivonen, a sole trader running Muscle Memory as rowandreason.com ("we", "us"). By accepting them (before your first page, or when you start a challenge before that), you agree to them.

Your account

  • Your account is a random ID in your browser. No name, no email, no password.
  • One person per account, please.
  • Your account lives in your browser. Clear your storage and it's gone; what we received stays with us until you delete the account (which needs that browser, or an exported file). To move to another browser, export a file in Settings and import it there. We can't recover an account for you.
  • You can delete your account any time with delete in Settings.

Playing fair

You agree not to:

  • use AI assistants, bots or someone else to solve challenges while presenting the result as your own run. If you want to see what an LLM would do, that's what the planned LLM comparisons are for;
  • automate accounts, scrape the catalog, or hammer the service;
  • attack, probe or reverse-engineer the service, except through responsible disclosure to support@rowandreason.com (thank you in advance);
  • try to identify anyone from what we publish, or combine it with other data to do so;
  • submit anything illegal, malicious, or that you don't have the right to share. Don't paste your employer's code. Their lawyers are much less fun than this page.

If you break these rules, we may refuse what your account sends, leave its records out of anything we publish or compare, or delete them. Since we don't know who you are, we usually can't tell you first.

Your code and activity

  • You keep the copyright in the code you write here.
  • You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, run, analyse and otherwise use what you submit and the activity around it, to run Muscle Memory, improve it, research how people code, and publish insights from that research: statistics and findings that don't quote your code or say anything about you in particular.
  • The licence ends when you delete your account, except for insights already published.
  • You confirm you have the right to give us that licence (see: your employer's code, above).
  • Going stealth in Settings means we leave you out of future insights and of comparisons, and in return you don't see other people's stats or your own report. Insights already published stay published. Nothing has been published yet.
  • Sharing a result is up to you. A result link shows anyone who has it which challenge you completed and how its checks went, and your code only if you choose to include it. Once you've sent a link, we can't take it back.

Our stuff

Muscle Memory's source code is open source under the MIT licence, which says what you may do with it; the licence comes with the code. The challenges, their descriptions and tests are ours and not part of that. Use them to practise, as much as you like. Don't copy the catalog wholesale or run a clone of it.

The service, as is

Muscle Memory is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Features will change, challenges will be added and retired, and we may pause or stop the service. If we shut down for good, we'll give reasonable notice where we can.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or time. Our total liability is limited to ¥10,000, or what you paid us in the past 12 months if that's more (today that's nothing).

None of this limits our liability for intent or gross negligence, or anything else that can't legally be limited, including your rights as a consumer under mandatory law.

Changes

When these Terms change, the version at the top changes too, and you'll be asked to accept the new ones on your next visit. Don't like the new Terms? Delete your account, no hard feelings.

Ending things

You can stop using Muscle Memory and delete your account at any time. We can end these Terms if you break them, or if we shut the service down. Insights already published stay, since we can't un-publish them.

Law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and disputes go to the courts of Otsu. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws where you live.
